During a visit to Rmeish in South Lebanon, Minister of Telecommunications Charles Hage announced that telecom coverage has been restored in 80% of the war-stricken region, thanks to swift and coordinated efforts.
Speaking to Al Jadeed, the minister noted that 20% of the area still lacks coverage due to the continued Israeli occupation of certain zones.
He praised the resilience of the southern residents, stating that “they have sacrificed the most precious things in defense of Lebanon,” and expressed gratitude to the Lebanese Army for its ongoing efforts to restore stability.
Telecom Ministry: Services Gradually Restored in South Lebanon
In a statement released on Wednesday, Lebanon’s Ministry of Telecommunications announced steady progress in restoring fixed-line, mobile, and internet networks across southern areas where residents have recently returned.
According to the ministry, the country’s three main providers—Ogero, Alfa, and Touch—have been working in coordination to reinstate essential services at a sustained pace. The following figures highlight the progress achieved:
-
Ogero has reactivated 71 out of 82 call centers, restoring service to 95% of its subscribers, representing an 85% operational rate.
-
Alfa has repaired 86 out of 109 transmission stations, achieving 80% restoration.
-
Touch has brought 166 out of 184 stations back online, reaching a 90% restoration rate.
Fixed-line, mobile, and internet services are now available in the majority of frontline towns and villages in the South, with performance reportedly meeting acceptable standards.
However, some infrastructure remains completely out of service due to ongoing security concerns, including 23 Alfa sites, 18 Touch stations, and 11 Ogero centers. Alternative solutions are currently under review to address these outages.
The ministry has also instructed all three providers to coordinate closely in order to eliminate coverage gaps and ensure uninterrupted service for residents in the affected areas.
