Minister of Education Rima Karami announced on Wednesday that Lebanon’s official baccalaureate exams will begin on July 9 and span five days. The academic year will be extended until June 13, with school principals granted the flexibility to organize schedules as they see fit.

Speaking at a press conference dedicated to the official examinations, Karami revealed that the curriculum for certain subjects will be further reduced, based on necessity and relevance to the diploma. Optional subjects will not be included, and she stressed that the exam environment will be “supportive and comfortable” for all candidates.

Karami added that the official exams are an opportunity for schools, teachers and candidates—especially in the South—to demonstrate their exceptional resilience, and a chance to show the world that they are capable of success and excellence.

She emphasized that the ministry’s decisions were the result of a careful and thorough study, with a focus on how much content had been covered in each subject.

“I held open meetings with teachers, listened to parents’ concerns and reviewed feedback from both educators and students,” Karami said. “We took their suggestions seriously and considered the school year to have officially begun on January 1, with four days of actual instruction per week.”
