Morgan Ortagus, the US President’s Deputy Special Envoy for the Middle East, issued a sharp and minimalist response to the latest speech by Hezbollah’s Secretary General, Sheikh Naim Qassem, who once again declared the party’s categorical refusal to disarm.

Reacting to a post quoting Qassem’s remarks, Ortagus replied with just one word: “Yawning.”

She offered no further comment, but the single-word reaction was widely interpreted as mocking or diplomatically dismissing what she—and many others—consider a tired and outdated narrative.

On social media, reactions poured in. Some users praised Ortagus for her subtle but cutting response, calling it a perfect reflection of Hezbollah’s entrenched status quo. Others viewed it as a signal that Washington sees the group’s continued posturing as delusional or irrelevant amid evolving regional dynamics.

In his speech, Sheikh Qassem had reiterated Hezbollah’s refusal to give up its arms under any circumstances, vowing to confront any internal or external force seeking to disarm the group. He stated that the resistance will never surrender and that Hezbollah would continue defending Lebanon on its own terms, rejecting compromise or retreat.
