Finance Minister Yassine Jaber stated that reforms are above all a national necessity, rather than merely a condition imposed by the international community. He made these remarks during a meeting held on Friday with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by Vice President Matteo Patrone.

The minister welcomed the EBRD’s willingness to support Lebanon’s private sector, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), especially in the fields of renewable energy and public-private partnerships.

Jaber emphasized the urgent need for Lebanon to swiftly implement reform laws in order to regain the confidence of the international community. While commitment to reforms agreed upon with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) forms the foundation for any international support, he noted that security and stability must also remain top priorities, calling on international partners to support these efforts.

On the sidelines of this meeting, Jaber concluded his visit to Kuwait, where he took part in the Arab Monetary Fund meetings. Discussions focused on public debt management — a particularly sensitive issue for Lebanon since its default in 2020.

Finally, he clarified that the decision to extend the suspension of the legal statute of limitations until the end of 2028 aims to provide a period of stability to help get the country back on track, both economically and financially.
