Ed Gabriel, head of the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL), stressed the need for the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement as well as the ongoing economic reforms under discussion in the Lebanese government.
He made this statement during a meeting on Tuesday with Samir Geagea, the leader of the Lebanese Forces (LF).
Regarding the ceasefire agreement, Gabriel emphasized the importance of disarming militias both north and south of the Litani River as a crucial step toward stabilizing the country. He also highlighted the necessity of strengthening the Lebanese Army to ensure it can carry out its missions effectively. Additionally, Gabriel pointed out that the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Lebanese border is a key step in establishing lasting peace and security. The demarcation of the land border between Lebanon and Israel was also discussed during the meeting.
On the topic of economic reforms, Gabriel expressed hope that the issues currently being debated within the Lebanese Cabinet would soon be presented to the Lebanese Parliament for approval. The US Ambassador’s remarks underline ongoing international support for Lebanon’s efforts to address both its security challenges and economic difficulties, with a focus on sustainable reforms and regional stability.
