British legend Elton John returns with Who Believes in Angels?, calling it his most innovative record in decades. The album, co-written with Brandi Carlile, marks a new creative chapter following his farewell tour.

The British artist Elton John is releasing his new album Who Believes in Angels? this Friday, co-written with American singer Brandi Carlile, and which he describes as his "most innovative" record since the 1970s.

"This album marks a new beginning for me," said the 78-year-old singer in an interview with British radio Smooth Radio. "It’s very innovative, probably the most innovative album I’ve made since the 1970s."

Who Believes in Angels? includes the song Never Too Late, inspired by the documentary of the same name, directed by his husband David Furnish, about his life and his final international tour.

The album was written and recorded in 20 days in October 2023 at the Sunset Sound studio in Los Angeles (USA).

It is the result of a collaboration with lyricist Bernie Taupin and producer Andrew Watt. Elton John and Brandi Carlile were also joined by musicians like Chad Smith, drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the band’s former guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer.

"Even though I love my band, I needed new musicians, a new producer to challenge me," said Elton John.

"I wanted this challenge, and it was a challenge, but everything went very well," he continued.

The singer, who ended his farewell tour in July 2023, recalled that he "no longer has the burden of touring." "So I can focus on other things, and I’ll be making more recordings," he promised.

His "greatest challenge," however, remains his children. "Being a parent is the most wonderful challenge one can take on, with highs and lows, but it’s absolutely extraordinary," said Elton John, who has two teenage sons, Zachary and Elijah, with David Furnish.

Elton John has sold, according to the Royal Academy of Music, more than 300 million albums worldwide.
