Israel carried out a targeted drone strike in southern Lebanon on Monday evening, killing a senior Hezbollah commander, marking yet another escalation in the ongoing tensions between the two sides.
The strike, which took place in the village of Qaaqaiyet el-Jisr in the Nabatiyeh region, targeted a car and resulted in the death of Hassan Kamal Halaweh, a key Hezbollah cadre. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health's Emergency Operations Center, the attack killed the vehicle’s driver.
Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee confirmed the operation on Tuesday, stating that Israeli forces had “eliminated Hassan Kamal Halaweh, a commander of Hezbollah’s anti-tank missile system on the southern front.”
In a message on his X account, Adraee accused Halaweh of orchestrating multiple attacks against Israel and facilitating the transport of combat equipment and personnel to southern Lebanon. He warned that “the Israeli army will eliminate any threat to the country’s security.”
