Economic organizations, led by former Minister Mohammad Choucair, discussed strategies to revitalize and modernize Lebanon's agricultural sector with Minister of Agriculture Nizar Hani on Monday. The meeting was held at Beirut and Mount Lebanon Chamber of Commerce, in the presence of representatives of the main agricultural associations.
Choucair emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors to revitalize this vital area of Lebanon's economy and social stability. He expressed his support for any initiative aimed at promoting agriculture, a strategic sector due to its economic, social, health and environmental impacts.
Nizar Hani thanked the economic organizations for their commitment to supporting the Lebanese economy. He discussed the strategic plans under preparation, particularly the rehabilitation of the agricultural sector following the damage caused by the war, as well as the establishment of a support and training system for farmers in response to the challenges of climate change. He also highlighted the need to revitalize agricultural exports, particularly to Saudi and Gulf markets, while ensuring the quality of the products.
The discussions focused on several critical issues, including the modernization of agricultural techniques, improving yields, combating smuggling and increasing the production of livestock and honey. An agreement was reached to continue cooperation and strengthen initiatives aimed at promoting Lebanese agriculture, with a particular focus on exportation and raising awareness to the sector's importance for Lebanon's food security.
