Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, the American designers behind Proenza Schouler, are set to succeed Jonathan Anderson as the new creative directors of Loewe. This marks the latest shift in the fashion world’s high-profile creative leadership roles.

Americans Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, founders of the fashion brand Proenza Schouler, will succeed Northern Irish Jonathan Anderson as creative directors of the Spanish house Loewe, the latter, owned by LVMH, announced on March 24. This appointment is the latest chapter in the ongoing reshuffle of fashion creative directors.

Anderson’s name, who left Loewe on March 17, is frequently mentioned as a potential head of Dior. Dior is also owned by LVMH, the luxury group controlled by French billionaire Bernard Arnault. “Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are entrusted with the full creative responsibility of all Loewe collections – women’s, men’s, leather goods, and accessories. Their appointment will take effect on April 7,” Loewe stated in a press release.

They founded Proenza Schouler in 2002 and stepped down from their leadership role in January, while remaining shareholders. “Over the past two decades, their work has contributed to reshaping contemporary fashion,” Loewe noted.

“Their approach to design,” which “rests on a rigorous exploration of craftsmanship, informed by a profound artistic sensibility (...), aligns with the values of Loewe, inherited from 179 years of history,” added the Spanish brand. “We are incredibly honored to join Loewe, a house whose values and mission are fully aligned with our own,” said the duo, quoted in the press release.

Anderson spent 11 years as creative director of Loewe. For years, the Spanish house’s shows have been a meeting point for cinema stars, from Timothée Chalamet to Pedro Almodóvar, and Tilda Swinton. Many of them have been brand ambassadors. Anderson designed several stage outfits for American singer Beyoncé, and also created the red jumpsuit worn by Rihanna at the 2023 Super Bowl, where she revealed her pregnant belly and announced her pregnancy.
