Units of the Lebanese Army and the Engineering Regiment entered, on Wednesday morning, the village of Hosh el-Sayed Ali, which has been under the control of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham fighters. The Lebanese Armed Forces' advance in the area comes after successful negotiations between the concerned parties, supported by intensive mobilization on the ground.

The army began implementing security measures in the area. These measures include patrolling to maintain security and stability in the border region.

Backed by reinforcements, army units began securing the area's neighborhoods, while Syrian forces continued their gradual withdrawal from the zone. Shortly before the troops' entry, a massive military convoy of 60 vehicles was deployed on the outskirts of the locality, marking a decisive step in reclaiming control of the sector.

A sense of anticipation prevails among the families who had fled Hosh el-Sayed Ali two days earlier. They are hoping to return home once the military redeployment is complete and access is restored.

Although the situation appeared to have calmed down following violent clashes from Tuesday night to Wednesday, several members of the Syrian armed forces set fire in the morning to the houses that had remained standing.

On Wednesday evening, a new clash broke out between members of Lebanese Shiite tribes and the Syrian army in this border town, a large part of which lies in Syrian territory. A few days earlier, tensions had also flared along the Lebanese-Syrian border, after the Syrian Ministry of Defense accused Hezbollah members of crossing the border in the Homs region, killing three Syrian soldiers and transporting their bodies back to Lebanese territory. Hezbollah swiftly denied “any involvement in the events that occurred on Sunday at the Lebanese-Syrian border,” reiterating in a statement that it was not engaged “in the recent clashes in Syria.”

A Lebanese army unit closed the illegal crossing of Matlaba in the Qasr-Hermel area, as well as three others in the Masharih el-Qaa region, “as part of efforts to monitor and secure the borders in light of the current situation, and to prevent infiltration and smuggling activities.
