Justice Minister Calls for Implementation of Ministerial Declaration from Bkerke

Minister of Justice Adel Nassar stressed on Monday, from the headquarters of the Maronite Patriarchate in Bkerke, the need to implement the ministerial declaration aimed at limiting the possession of weapons to the Lebanese state.

He emphasized that this measure was the essential starting point for state-building, calling for the establishment of a precise timetable, decided sovereignly by Lebanon. “All parties must make the choice to build the State,” he insisted, referring to the issue of weapons held outside the State framework.

This visit to Bkerke, a symbol of Maronite spiritual authority, comes against a backdrop of political and institutional tensions, while the issue of arms held outside the framework of the State remains a central point of national debate.

Call Not to Obstruct Judicial Proceedings

Regarding the investigation into the deadly explosion at the port of Beirut, Nassar asserted that he had no right to interfere in the work of the judiciary. On the other hand, he called for all information to be made available to Judge Tarek Bitar, who is in charge of the investigation, and for him not to be hindered in any way.

On the judicial front, the Minister assured that future judicial appointments would be based on competence, integrity and independence, reaffirming his commitment to an impartial justice system free from political pressure. He also called for an improvement in judges' conditions, saying that “the independence of the judiciary cannot be guaranteed without a review of their situation”.
