The President of the Federation of Tourist Unions and the Hoteliers’ Union, Pierre Achkar, has raised concerns over recent street violence and road blockades, particularly those disrupting access to Beirut’s International Airport (BIA).
He cautioned that such unrest could jeopardize the tourism sector’s recent momentum, which had strengthened following the election of the President of the Republic and the formation of the government.
In a statement, Achkar warned against the recurrence of such incidents, describing them as a direct threat to security and stability, which are two fundamental pillars for sustaining tourism anywhere in the world.
Despite these concerns, he expressed optimism about the sector’s revival, pointing to the President’s speech as a roadmap for advancing and developing Lebanon’s tourism industry.
Achkar also voiced high expectations for President Joseph Aoun’s upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia and the Gulf, emphasizing that the return of Gulf nationals to Lebanon would not only boost tourism but also have a major positive impact across all economic sectors.
