Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, in a statement following the announcement of his government, said the government's mission was to carry out reforms and reconstruction, ensure security and the implementation of Resolution 1701, and withdrawal of Israeli forces.

Earlier, Salam arrived at the presidential palace for talks with President Joseph Aoun on the latest developments in the negotiations to form the future government. They were later joined by the Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri.

This is the sixth time that Salam has visited Baabda, after several unsuccessful attempts to get his government approved, which have mainly stumbled over the personality to be appointed to the fifth ministry allocated to the Shiite community. Berri, had rejected the names proposed previously by the Head of State and the Prime Minister-designate.
