Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has filed a new complaint against Israel with the United Nations Security Council, denouncing recent Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory and violations of the country's sovereignty. The complaint, submitted on Tuesday, highlights breaches of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement aimed at ending hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel.
The complaint was lodged through Lebanon’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York and covers incidents from November 27, 2024—the date the ceasefire took effect—until today.
Lebanon accuses Israel of ongoing air and ground assaults, large-scale destruction of homes and residential areas, the abduction of Lebanese civilians and soldiers and attacks on civilians attempting to return to their villages near the border. According to the complaint, approximately 24 people have been killed and over 124 have been injured during this period.
Furthermore, Lebanon condemns Israel for targeting Lebanese army patrols and journalists, as well as for removing five boundary markers along the Blue Line, violating Resolution 1701.
Lebanon is urging the UN Security Council, particularly the states that brokered the ceasefire, to take a firm stance against these repeated violations and pressure Israel to comply with its international obligations. The complaint also underscores the need for enhanced support for the Lebanese army and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and protect its citizens.
