French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Beirut on Friday.

He was welcomed off the plane by caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, with whom he held talks.

According to the Elysée, the purpose of the trip was to “help” President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Nawaf Salam.

Its aim is to consolidate Lebanon's sovereignty, ensure its prosperity, and maintain its unity.

Emmanuel Macron then met President Joseph Aoun and welcomed the recent political breakthrough.

He stressed the need to speed up implementation of the ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon.

He also announced that an international conference would be held in Paris to support the reconstruction of Lebanon.

Earlier in the day, he met the Chief of Staff of the UNIFIL peacekeeping force, General Jean-Jacques Fatinet, as well as the heads of the mechanism overseeing the ceasefire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah.

He laid a wreath at the monument to the unknown soldier in tribute to the victims.

He also met young volunteers in the Gemmayzé district.

This district, devastated by the explosion of August 4, has been rebuilt with the help of NGOs and French funds.
