The Lebanese Federation of Shooting and Hunting organized the sixth edition of the Lebanese Championship in the Olympic Trap discipline (Category A). This competition, held at the Lebanon Country Club shooting range, brought together 12 high-level shooters, under the attentive eye of Wassim Khalil, Secretary-General of the host club, and several enthusiasts of this demanding discipline.

Qualifying Rounds and Selection of Finalists

The qualifying rounds, contested over a total of 125 targets, allowed the selection of the best six shooters. Here are their results:

  • Samir Sarkis: 99/125
  • Imad Fawaz: 96/125

A Rigorous International System

In accordance with the new regulations of the International Shooting Federation, the top six shooters faced off in the semi-finals, each shooting 25 targets. This phase helped distinguish the participants before an intense final round where every shot mattered.

The progressive elimination system stipulates that shooters compete in series of five targets, with the least performing participants getting eliminated until only two competitors remain for a final face-off over 10 targets.

A Spectacular Final

The final round lived up to all expectations. Raja al-Achkar displayed exceptional composure, hitting 36 out of 50 targets to prevail over his opponents. He surpassed Samir Sarkis, second with 34 hits and Imad Fawaz, third with 26 hits. Here is the complete ranking of the finalists:

  • 1st: Raja al-Achkar (36/50)
  • 2nd: Samir Sarkis (34/50)
  • 3rd: Imad Fawaz (26/50)
  • 4th: Elie Abou Jaoudé (12/35)
  • 5th: Rabih Kachaami (17/30)
  • 6th: André Abi Khalil (12/25)

The arbitration, led by Joseph Hanna, proceeded without incident, reflecting the high level of professionalism and rigor required at this level.

A Symbolic Victory

By triumphing in this round, Achkar confirms his status as a key figure in shooting in Lebanon. In a brief statement after his victory, he declared, “This success is the result of hard work and constant discipline. I am proud to represent Lebanon in this demanding discipline.”

This victory takes on particular significance in Lebanon's current context, highlighting the athletes’ resilience and their determination to excel despite the challenges facing the country. It serves as a reminder that sports remain a powerful vehicle for solidarity and hope.

A Remarkable Event

This competition, marked by outstanding performances, underscores the high level of Lebanese shooters and their ability to adapt to a demanding international format. In this regard, the secretary-general of the Lebanon Country Club stated, “We are proud to host competitions of this quality and to see our shooters compete with the best global standards.”
