The leader of the Lebanese Forces (LF), Samir Geagea, stated that "Joseph Aoun's accession to the presidency reflects the beginning of a new chapter, distanced from the Axis of Resistance."
Speaking on Thursday evening on the political program ‘Sar el Waet’ on the local MTV channel, he emphasized that "this is the first time a president is elected outside the influence of the ousted Syrian regime and the Axis of Resistance."
Geagea also called on all parties to "work to facilitate the mission of the new administration," asserting that "Lebanon could not be in a worse situation than it has experienced so far."
He revealed that he had spoken with General Aoun before the electoral session and found that elements of their discussion was echoed in the inaugural speech Aoun delivered Thursday in Parliament.
When asked about candidates for the position of prime minister, Geagea named two: Ashraf Rifi and Fouad Makhzoumi.
