As four days separate us from the January 9 presidential election, the head of Hezbollah's coordination and liaison unit, Wafic Safa, declared that “there is no veto on the candidacy of the commander-in-chief of the army, General Joseph Aoun, for the presidency of the Republic. However, our only veto is against Samir Geagea, as he embodies a project of discord and destruction in the country.”
During a visit to the site of the assassination of former Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah in the southern suburb of Beirut, Wafic Safa assured that “Hezbollah has regained its capabilities and can respond to any aggression in any way it sees fit.”
He also indicated that the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, will meet with US mediator Amos Hochstein to discuss Israeli violations.
In addition, Wafic Safa revealed that Hassan Nasrallah's funeral will take place in the southern suburbs of Beirut, once the 60-day ceasefire deadline has passed.
