Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati chaired a meeting on Tuesday with Army Commander-in-Chief General Joseph Aoun and the ceasefire monitoring committee, where he pledged for an end to Israeli violations of ceasefire.

As a reminder, the committee included US General Jasper Jeffers, French General Guillaume Buchanan, Commander of the Army's South Litani Sector Brigadier General Edgar Lowndes, and UNIFIL Commander General Araldo Lazaro.

During the meeting, Mikati demanded an end to Israeli violations and called for an immediate withdrawal from border areas. “Lebanon is committed to the terms of the understanding, while Israel continues its violations, and this is unacceptable,” he said.

He also emphasized “the need to promote stability to enable displaced southerners to return to their villages,” citing observations from his recent tour of the South.

Mikati urged the committee “to pressure Israel to uphold the understanding,” particularly the “withdrawal from occupied areas and the cessation of violations.”

As such, the committee plans to continue discussions with the Lebanese Army and hold its next regular meeting at the beginning of the new year.
