The United States has intensified sanctions against a growing number of oil tankers and companies accused of being involved in the trade of Iranian oil, Bloomberg reported,.
Nine ships and eight companies have been added to the sanctions list, according to a government statement released on Thursday. Among the vessels targeted is the MS Enola, which has been linked to the Iranian oil trade for several years.
These latest sanctions disrupt the flow of Iranian crude oil to China, its largest buyer. The national security adviser selected by President-elect Donald Trump has recently promised to maintain “maximum pressure” on Tehran. The Biden administration is also considering new sanctions aimed at Russian oil trade.
Since October 11, the U.S. has added more than 70 ships to its sanctions list, many of which are supertankers used to transport Iranian oil to China.
At the same time, the U.S. has sanctioned financial channels linked to the Houthis in Yemen, including three Malaysian-based companies that were providing services to ship Iranian oil and raw materials to customers in East Asia.
