The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, described 2024 as “a year of immense suffering” for Lebanon, marked by significant loss of life, widespread trauma and extensive destruction.
“The challenging journey of recovery, healing, and rebuilding has only just begun,” she stated, emphasizing the need for sustainable ceasefire arrangements and the stability the Lebanese people deserve.
Looking ahead, she expressed optimism for 2025, highlighting opportunities for hope and renewal. “The UN has always stood by Lebanon and its people and will continue to do so,” she affirmed, wishing all Lebanese peace, health and prosperity in the new year.
