A partnership agreement was signed on Friday between the Ministry of Agriculture, represented by caretaker Minister Abbas Al Hajj Hassan, and the Litani National Authority, represented by General Manager and Chairman of the Board of Directors Sami Alawieh. This partnership is part of the Ministry’s plan to expand and develop wheat cultivation.
According to the agreement, the Litani National Authority would be in charge of growing and caring for Acsad 1133 soft wheat on its property. This decision follows Al Hajj Hassan’s nationwide initiative to “strengthen Lebanese food security” by distributing soft wheat to Lebanese farmers across many governorates.
Al Hajj Hassan noted that the campaign is a component of a plan that his ministry developed and that the Lebanese government has approved. He added that the primary goal of this plan is to generate the amount of soft wheat needed to make flour and bread and achieve a kind of self-sufficiency. It is also to assist farmers in increasing their output at a reduced cost in order to achieve stable, sustained food security.
