Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati reaffirmed Lebanon's commitment to fully implementing United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 during a meeting on Wednesday.

Mikati also called on Israel to “honor the ceasefire agreement” announced on November 27, and urged the country to “withdraw from the towns and villages in southern Lebanon.”

These remarks were made during a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez at the Spanish government’s headquarters in Madrid.

Mikati praised the Spanish battalion serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and commended the efforts of UNIFIL’s Commander, General Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz, in maintaining stability in the region.

The two leaders also discussed the state of bilateral relations between Lebanon and Spain, as well as broader regional issues.

Mikati expressed his gratitude to Spain for its ongoing support of Lebanon, emphasizing the vital role of international partnerships in addressing the country's challenges.
