Caretaker Minister of Public Works and Transport Ali Hamieh said on Wednesday that all airlines have submitted requests to resume flights to and from Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport. He made this statement after meeting with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, emphasizing that his ministry began issuing flight permits on November 27.
Hamieh indicated that efforts are underway to streamline procedures, aiming to restore normal flight operations for most Arab and international airlines by mid-December, ahead of the holiday season.
Regarding the ports, the minister highlighted that operations have continued uninterrupted, even amidst the ongoing conflict, stressing that the ports remain operational around the clock. He committed to providing swift and efficient services to merchants across various regions of Lebanon.
Hamieh also underscored the ministry’s efforts to clear roads since the start of Israeli bombardment, noting that teams are still working in certain areas, particularly in Nabatiyeh and the South Governorate, to restore road conditions. Additionally, he announced repair works on several Lebanese roads, including those in the southern suburb of Beirut, the Baalbeck-Hermel Governorate, and the Western Beqaa. He confirmed that nearly all roads in Lebanon are now fully accessible.
Regarding border posts, the Minister of Public Works announced that the al-Masnaa crossing between Lebanon and Syria was now open, and traffic has returned to normal. He explained that rehabilitation work is ongoing on the northern border crossings in order to facilitate smoother traffic between Lebanon and Syria as soon as possible.
