The Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Army, General Joseph Aoun, met on Friday at his office in Yarze with Major General Jasper Jeffers, the Head of the Quint Supervisory Committee. They discussed the overall situation and coordination mechanisms among the concerned parties in southern Lebanon.
The committee is tasked with overseeing the implementation of the US-brokered 60-day ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel. The Lebanese Armed Forces play a key role during this phase. Since the ceasefire took effect, the Lebanese Army has been deployed in southern Lebanon. The agreement calls for a gradual withdrawal of both Israeli forces and Hezbollah. The Iranian-backed militia is expected to retreat and disarm beyond the Litani River, located 30 kilometers from the border.
