The former head of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP), Walid Joumblatt, praised the important role played by the Lebanese army, intelligence and security services during the war, which helped deconstruct the “absurd and dangerous theories relating to self-security.”
Turning to the issue of disputed land between Lebanon and Israel, Joumblatt considered that “the Shebaa farms and the Kfarchouba hills are, at present and pending Israel's complete withdrawal from Lebanese territory, occupied Syrian and non-Lebanese zones.” And this “in accordance with Security Council Resolution 242, adopted in 1967, which does not concern Lebanon.”
The United Nations adopted Resolution 242, which called for Israel’s withdrawal from the territories it had captured in the 1967 war in exchange for lasting peace.
Furthermore, Joumblat hailed the official and private sectors for their “tremendous efforts in exceptional circumstances,” as well as the teams of the Civil Defense and the Lebanese Red Cross. And he highlighted the services and assistance provided by all those who helped support the displaced.
