The proportion of displaced individuals who have returned to their homes in the Baalbeck-Hermel governorate has reached 50%, according to Governor Bachir Khodr on Wednesday afternoon.
This percentage is a positive indicator, especially considering that less than 24 hours have passed since the ceasefire came into effect early Wednesday morning.
Returning to their villages, despite the extensive destruction, particularly in Baalbeck, seems to have been easier for residents of the Beqaa region compared to those in the South.
Large numbers of people began their journey back to southern Lebanon early Wednesday. However, their progress was hindered by a more fragile security situation than in the area of Baalbeck-Hermel.
They faced stricter security measures imposed by the Lebanese Army, as well as restrictions and warnings issued by the Israeli military. These restrictions included bans on crossing south of the Litani River between 5 PM and 7 AM or approaching villages located in Israeli-controlled areas due to safety concerns.
Additionally, some villages in the border region with Israel have been destroyed, further complicating the return of southern residents, who now rely on reconstruction efforts. However, no clear plans for rebuilding have been outlined yet.
