The Ministry of Energy will start distributing diesel fuel to shelters hosting displaced people in the coming hours in anticipation of a severe drop in temperature forecast for next week.
Caretaker Energy Minister Walid Fayad said in an interview with Voice of All Lebanon Radio on Thursday that the ministry is seeking to speed up the distribution process in coordination with oil companies.
He also added that the distribution mechanism is being carried out under the governmental emergency commission’s auspices and in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Affairs.
“These two sources (ministries) provide the Ministry of Energy with information on each center’s requirements,” he noted.
He said the allocation of $11 million, approved by the Council of Ministers, “guarantees around 16 million liters of diesel, meaning that distribution can continue at the rate of one million liters of diesel per week for a period of 16 weeks.”
