Hassan Fadlallah, an MP from Hezbollah’s Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, said that “the indirect negotiations with Israel are based on a document that is very similar to that of 2006, even if the circumstances are different,” referring to the agreement that ended the 33-day conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006 under UNSC Resolution 1701.
“The American proposal consists of mutual commitments between the Lebanese and Israeli parties on the mechanisms for implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and establishing a ceasefire,” Fadlallah said in an interview on al-Jadeed TV on Wednesday.
“We have a national responsibility toward the proposals made to Lebanon, in accordance with the fundamental principles linked to the sovereignty and security of our country and our people,” he added.
These comments are made as Amos Hochstein, the US envoy, has been in Beirut since Tuesday and is awaiting the Lebanese side’s final reaction to the US ceasefire plan in Lebanon.
On Wednesday night, he is scheduled to arrive in Israel and deliver the disputed document to the Israeli government.
