Minister of Public Health Firas Abyad launched a new program to cover emergency primary healthcare services that do not require hospitalization. The new program will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, November 19 and will remain in place after the war on Lebanon ends.
This program is aimed at Lebanese citizens receiving treatment at the Ministry of Public Health's expense, as well as displaced individuals from their towns and villages.
“This new program is limited to emergency cases that cannot wait to be treated at primary healthcare centers,” the health minister emphasized. He noted that chronic diseases and certain acute illnesses will still be treated at health centers.
The minister pointed out that “the coverage for emergency consultations in the ER also includes follow-up tests such as blood tests and X-rays, if needed, along with the necessary treatment."
"The cost of this service is estimated at 4.5 million Lebanese pounds, or about 50 USD, with the Ministry covering 70% (3.15 million Lebanese pounds), leaving the non-displaced citizen to pay 30% (1.35 million Lebanese pounds). Displaced persons registered in the Emergency Management Room will receive full coverage."
In case the patient requires additional tests after the initial consultation, the emergency doctor can request approval from the Ministry of Public Health via the available platform. Once approved, further tests will be conducted or the patient will be referred to one of the primary healthcare centers, Abyad added.
He clarified that 27 government hospitals and 17 private hospitals are participating in the program. A list of the hospitals was also published.
