Israeli President Isaac Herzog canceled his visit to Azerbaijan due to Turkey's ban on overflying its airspace, according to Azerbaijani media outlet Caliber. Herzog was scheduled to attend COP29 alongside other global leaders.

Israeli media had initially reported that the cancellation of the trip was due to security concerns.

In May, Herzog visited Baku, where he praised the strong and multifaceted relationship between Israel and Azerbaijan, following the opening of an Azerbaijani embassy in Israel in March 2023.

Israel considers Azerbaijan a “strategic partner,” with which it has a close historical connection. The two countries maintain significant ties in defense, trade, tourism and energy.
