Republicans have secured a majority in the US House of Representatives on Thursday, extending their hold of the the three key branches of the US government – the White House, Congress, and Supreme Court – in a development that could give President-Elect Donald Trump huge freedom to enact his political agenda.

AP determined on Wednesday that the Republicans had won at least 218 seats, enough to give them the majority in the 435-seat house.

Control of the House of Representatives, comes after the Republicans took control of the Senate following last weeks decisive Republican victory that has served Donald Trump another 4-year term.

The Democrats’ loss of their majority will put to bed their hopes that they could block Trump’s agenda in the lower chamber, and instead beckons in a new administration with a large capacity to push major policy changes through the American legislature.
