Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan emphasized on Monday, that ending the war in Gaza is the summit’s “top priority," a statement he made during a press conference held on the sidelines of the joint Arab League and Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit in Riyadh.
He further stated that the "establishment of a Palestinian state remains a central goal," urging that the international community must not forget this objective or attempt to absolve Israel of its actions.
The foreign minister’s comments come as leaders across the Arab and Islamic world convened to express a unified stance on the Palestinian issue. “The emergency Arab-Islamic summit confirms that we speak with one voice regarding Palestine,” Prince Faisal bin Farhan said, underscoring regional solidarity. This summit serves as a powerful reminder of the Middle East's unified position on the Palestinian cause, amidst escalating violence in Gaza.
Speaking at the summit, Prince Faisal delivered a sharp critique of the international community’s failure to adequately address Israel’s actions in Gaza, calling for global accountability and stronger intervention. He urged the world not to “turn a blind eye” to what he described as “crimes” committed by Israel, emphasizing that such inaction undermines efforts toward peace in the region.
“Our primary goal is to stop the war,” Prince Faisal stated, reinforcing that the protection of Palestinian rights and self-determination is at the heart of Saudi Arabia’s foreign policy. “We seek to focus attention on the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination,” he added, reiterating that lasting peace cannot be achieved without addressing these fundamental issues.
Bin Farhan also revealed that Arab nations are pushing for the suspension of Israel's UN membership and will call on the Security Council to establish an independent investigative committee to probe "Israeli crimes, including mass murder and ethnic cleansing."
Saudi Arabia’s strong position at the summit reflects its continued commitment to the Palestinian cause and signals mounting pressure on the international community to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Bin Farhan also mentioned that the ministerial committee of the summit will discuss ways to support Lebanon in overcoming its crises.
Earlier in the day, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman condemned Israel’s actions, labeling them as "genocide" against Palestinians, and criticized the country’s military operations as violations of Lebanon's sovereignty.
