Israeli army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi stated on Wednesday that the military must prepare to expand its ongoing ground offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Halevi said during an assessment, in remarks provided by the Israeli army, that “alongside the diplomatic attempt to reach agreements in Lebanon, we need to continue formulating the plans for the continuation of the fighting in Lebanon, including expanding and deepening the [ground] maneuver, and we will activate these plans as needed.”

He added that the army will continue to strike Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, the Beqaa Valley, Beirut and Syria, “according to plan in the entire region.”

Shortly before his comments, strikes hit south Beirut on Wednesday, about an hour after Israel issued evacuation warnings for three areas of the main Hezbollah bastion.

Earlier in the day, the Beqaa Valley and Nabatiyeh were attacked as well.
