United Nations peacekeepers said on Tuesday that a rocket, likely fired by Hezbollah or an affiliated group, hit its headquarters in Naqoura, in southern Lebanon, leaving some peacekeepers with minor injuries.

“A rocket hit UNIFIL’s headquarters in Naqoura, setting a vehicle workshop on fire,” the force said in a statement, adding that it “was fired from north of UNIFIL's headquarters, likely by Hezbollah or an affiliated group.”

UNIFIL reminded Hezbollah, “and all actors, of their obligations to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property,” revealing that an investigation on the incident has been opened.

“Any deliberate attack on UNIFIL is a serious violation of international humanitarian law and Resolution 1701,” the force reiterated.

Earlier, the Austrian Defense Ministry indicated that “eight Austrian UNIFIL soldiers were injured in a rocket attack in Naqoura.” “It is unacceptable to jeopardize UN forces,” the ministry denounced in a statement, reminding that UNIFIL soldiers have come “under fire several times in recent days.”
