The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs filed a complaint with the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday regarding Israeli attacks on Lebanon's health sector, specifically between October 8 and October 24.
The complaint highlights the 281 strikes against hospitals, care centers, and relief organizations, resulting in 163 deaths and hundreds of injuries.
In its statement, the Ministry emphasized the "disastrous effects of the Israeli aggression on the health sector, particularly in the targeted areas."
These effects include the large-scale displacement of doctors, nurses, and pharmacists, which causes a shortage in medical staff, essential equipment, and treatments.
Furthermore, the demand for mental health services has significantly increased, especially among children affected by the war.
Lebanon also warned of the risks to the health sector if the war continues, urging the international community to enhance its support for the country and provide urgent aid to protect health infrastructures.
The Ministry called on UNSC member states to condemn Israel, hold it accountable, and take effective measures to prevent further attacks on the sector.
“Such actions constitute war crimes under international law, which stipulates the necessity to protect health institutions and medical personnel during wars and armed conflicts,” the statement concluded.
