Israeli airstrikes continued across various Lebanese regions on Monday, with the latest attack targeting a vehicle in Arayya on the Beirut-Damascus highway.
According to initial reports, an Israeli drone carried out an apparent targeted attack, injuring one person who happened to be standing next to the vehicle. The targeted car “continued on its way” and managed to escape even though it was hit. There was no immediate information about the identity of the targeted person, who is believed to have survived.
The incident caused a monstrous traffic jam as vehicles navigated around the damaged site.
Monday’s attack is the third of its kind on this main artery of the country, precisely targeting Hezbollah operatives each time.
In other developments, south Lebanon saw intense bombing on Sunday night through Monday morning. In the district of Tyre, airstrikes claimed the lives of three people from the same family, while rescue teams continue searching for missing persons feared to be buried under the rubble.
In Ain Baal, seven people were killed, including a nurse and three first responders, and 24 others were injured. Airstrikes devastated other southern villages, including al-Bazouriya, Maarakeh and Tyre’s coastal reserve. In al-Borj al-Shamali, an airstrike killed five people, two of whom were paramedics.
Southern villages near Nabatiyeh also suffered consecutive strikes that severely damaged a Governmental Hospital and Najda Shaabiya Hospital.
For its part, the Emergency Operations Center of the Lebanese Ministry of Health issued a statement this morning saying that the Israeli raid at dawn on a building in the Ramel district of Tyre left “5 people dead and 10 wounded,” according to a preliminary toll.
Eleven Israeli strikes also targeted Qlayleh at around 11 AM on Monday morning, and two others targeted Khiam.
In addition, the Israeli army carried out extensive sweeping operations with medium and light machine guns throughout the night from Sunday until Monday morning. It also engaged in fierce clashes with Hezbollah fighters in the vicinity of Kfar Kila and Tal al-Nahas.
Earlier, three people were killed in the Bekaa region, and three children were wounded in a raid targeting Chmestar, which completely destroyed their house. Operations to clear the rubble are still underway.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese army announced that it will carry out controlled detonations of unexploded ordinances in the Ghobeiry neighborhood in the southern suburbs of Beirut, before noon on Monday, amid a precarious calm in the often targeted area.
For its part, Hezbollah announced in a series of communiqués that it attacked several gatherings of Israeli soldiers, notably at the Fatima Gate, and also between the settlements of Al-Manara and Margaliot.
During the night, the pro-Iranian group mimicked the Israelis by issuing alerts, in Arabic and Hebrew, to the inhabitants of settlements in northern Israel to “immediately evacuate” the area, as a prelude to an attack.
For its part, an Israeli media outlet reported that more than “20 rockets were fired in the direction of Kiryat Shmona and its environs in the Galilee.”
The Israeli army reported the “interception of a drone in northern Israel which had crossed the border from Lebanon.”
