While Israel announced that it had “closed the main road between Rmeich and Aita al-Shaab with tanks,” thus extending its land incursion into southern Lebanon, Hezbollah claimed to have entered a new phase of escalation against Israel. This comes a day after the murder of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.

Indeed, the Israeli army appears to be expanding its ground operations into southern Lebanon, which began on September 30. It announced on Friday that “based on an assessment of the situation,” it had decided to mobilize “another brigade of reservists” in south Lebanon, without specifying which brigade.

In a tweet on his X account, Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee said this would enable “continued fighting against Hezbollah” and the achievement of “set war objectives,” including the return of residents to northern Israel.

Adraee also announced that the Israeli army had “eliminated” the Hezbollah commander in charge of the Taybeh sector in southern Lebanon, Mohammad Hussein Rammal, specifying that “the air force had targeted him following directives from the 98th division, present on the ground,” without indicating the date of this operation.

Several Killed in South Lebanon and Bekaa

Meanwhile, the war in Lebanon continues unabated. Late on Friday, several Israeli raids targeted the southern Lebanese governorate of Nabatiyeh and Bekaa, breaking the precarious calm that had prevailed since morning. As for the inhabitants of the capital and its southern suburbs, they endure the constant sound of drones in the sky, reminding them that war is still raging in the country.

Two people were killed in an Israeli raid on the town of Qantara, in the Marjayoun caza, at the end of the day.

Two members of the same family were killed in a morning strike on Zarariya, in the Saida district. Three people were also killed in the locality of Jwaya, in the region of Tyre, where rescue workers were still searching the rubble for survivors.

A heavy-caliber missile also targeted a neighborhood in the town of Nabatiyeh, which has been heavily hit by the Israeli army over the past three days.

Israeli military aircraft carried out a series of raids on several southern villages, as Israeli artillery shelled many others.

In addition, according to information obtained by local channel MTV, “a person in Mays al-Jabal is being investigated on suspicion of passing information to the Israeli Mossad.”

Villages in Bekaa, in east Lebanon, also had their share of Israeli air attacks in which at least one person was killed.

For its part, Hezbollah announced that it had “intercepted an Israeli drone” in southern Lebanon “with a surface-to-air missile, forcing it to leave Lebanese airspace.”

The pro-Iranian group claimed responsibility for an attack with “a squadron of drones” targeting Israeli soldiers deployed in the Israeli town of Safad, inflicting several casualties.

It claimed responsibility for missile attacks on the naval site of Ras Naqoura and targeted Israeli soldiers deployed in Zarit, a border locality in northern Israel.

The Israeli army reported that it had “destroyed a Hezbollah command center and tunnel” in south Lebanon.
