Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on Friday for the United Nations to impose an arms embargo on Israel, describing it as an "effective solution" to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Erdogan made the remarks in a statement following a several-hour meeting in Istanbul with the foreign ministers of Russia, Iran, Armenia, and Azerbaijan.

According to the statement, "Israel seeks provocations to escalate conflicts in the region... An arms embargo imposed on Israel by the United Nations would be an effective solution to halt Israeli aggression."

Additionally, the president advocated for "lasting peace" in the Caucasus after a meeting involving Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his counterparts from Russia, Sergei Lavrov, Iran, Abbas Araghchi, Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, and Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.

No details were released regarding the discussions.

Recently, tensions have arisen between Moscow and Tehran over the "Zangezur corridor," a project supported by Azerbaijan and Turkey aimed at constructing a road along the border between Armenia, which has accepted the project, and Iran, which opposes it.
