A Christian-Islamic spiritual summit convened on Wednesday at the seat of the Maronite Church in Bkerke, at the invitation of Patriarch Beshara al-Rai, to reaffirm national unity and call for an immediate cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

The urgent implementation of resolution 1701 was emphasized in the meeting's final declaration, which also called on the government to assume its responsibilities with parliament by mobilizing Arab support.

The declaration reiterated the call for the UN to meet without delay to “cease the fire and stop the massacres committed against Lebanon.”

“Everyone must fulfill their duties, especially that of electing a president,” the message continues, adding that “our entity is threatened and it is time to make sacrifices to save Lebanon.”

The statement also stressed that understanding and unity are mostly needed now, and urged the Lebanese people to save their nation from “sterile debates.”
