Two Israeli airstrikes targeted the areas of Basta and al-Nuwairi, densely populated neighbourhoods in Beirut.

The first strike targeted the third floor of an eight-storey building in the al-Nuwairi area, and the second strike hit a four-storey building on Fathallah Street in Al-Basta Al-Fawqa, which collapsed completely.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, at least 122 dead and 117 injured. Women and children arre among the victims.

Civil Defense teams were working to free people trapped in the upper floors of the targeted building in al-Nwairi while firefighters were working to put out a blaze in the residential building.

Local residents were attempting to pull survivors out of the mountain of rubble.

Beirut hospitals call for blood donations after latest Israeli attacks.

Security reports state that a person suspected of being an Israeli agent was arrested.

Citing a Lebanese security source, Reuters reports that the Israeli strikes on Beirut targeted at least one Hezbollah figure, and 3 missiles were fired at an 8-story building in Talaat el-Nuwairi, deep inside Beirut.

Israeli Channel 12 claims that Hezbollah Liaison and Coordination Officer Wafiq Safa was the target of the strikes.

Israel has repeatedly pounded southern Beirut suburbs, the bastion of Hezbollah, for more than two weeks but strikes have rarely targeted the center of the city.
