Caretaker Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi addressed, during a press conference at the Ministry of Interior on Thursday, the incident that broke out in Manara (seafront of Beirut) on Wednesday evening. Law enforcement officers intervened with a group of displaced persons and individuals who had set up makeshift kiosks on the waterfront. Mawlawi explained that the aim was to curb violations.

“These actions encroach on public property, and our objective is to safeguard all of Lebanon, as Beirut belongs to all Lebanese,” he said.

In response to a question concerning personal weapons allegedly seized by the Internal Security Forces (ISF) in the Hamra district, Mawlawi told This is Beirut that the weapons were revealed during a dispute over the electricity supply.

“The ISF arrested those involved in the altercation and confiscated any items obstructing law enforcement,” he added.
