The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, issued a grave statement on Tuesday regarding the ongoing violence across Lebanon.
"What we feared has materialized," she remarked, highlighting strikes across Lebanon, including in central Beirut, and incursions across the Blue Line. "The escalating violence threatens to spiral out of control, endangering civilians on both sides," she added.
Hennis-Plasschaert emphasized that each rocket, missile and ground raid moves both Israel and Hezbollah further away from the vision outlined in Security Council resolution 1701 and jeopardizes the conditions necessary for the safe return of displaced civilians.
The UN Special Coordinator warned that "this cycle of violence will not end well—for anyone," urging all parties to seize the remaining opportunity for diplomacy.
