The American actress Julia Roberts is set to be honored with an honorary César on February 28 during the 50th edition of France's most prestigious cinematic awards. This announcement was made on Monday, September 30, by the event organizers, who are celebrating a historic milestone for French cinema this year.

Born in 1967 in Georgia, USA, Julia Roberts began her career in the early 1990s. She rose to fame at just 23 years old with her unforgettable role in Pretty Woman (1990), where she shared the screen with Richard Gere. This film, which became a classic in the romantic comedy genre, not only made her an international star but also redefined expectations around romantic film heroines. Her natural charm and ability to portray complex characters earned her immediate and lasting recognition.

Films like Notting Hill and My Best Friend's Wedding further solidified her reputation as an icon of the genre. However, Julia Roberts is far more than just a romantic comedy actress. Her role in Erin Brockovich (2000) marked a decisive turning point in her career, paving the way for her Oscar win for Best Actress in 2001. In this film, she portrays Erin Brockovich, a whistleblower engaged in a fierce battle against industrial pollution caused by Pacific Gas and Electric Company. This role not only showcased her acting talent but also highlighted her commitment to significant societal causes, particularly environmental justice and the defense of citizens' rights.

At 56, Julia Roberts remains one of Hollywood's most recognizable and beloved faces. In addition to her film career, she is involved in various humanitarian causes. Notably, she participated in a fundraising campaign for cancer research, Stand Up to Cancer, in 2008. She has also actively supported initiatives for girls' education alongside Michelle Obama in Asia in 2019, as well as environmental protection projects. Her influence extends beyond the screen, making her a role model for many artists and viewers worldwide.

It is worth noting that the honorary César, awarded for an entire career, has this year been bestowed upon French director and actress Agnès Jaoui, as well as British filmmaker Christopher Nolan. The 50th César ceremony, which will be broadcast on Canal+, will be presided over by the legendary Catherine Deneuve. The highly anticipated nominations will be revealed on January 29. The ceremony promises to be a memorable moment, honoring a range of artists who have made significant contributions to both French and international cinema.
