Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati urged the United Nations on Tuesday for “additional support to provide basic assistance to displaced Lebanese civilians.”
He made the plea during a meeting with UN organizations and ambassadors from donor countries as part of the Lebanese government's response plan to address the displacement crisis caused by the war in Lebanon.
“We gather today at a time when Lebanon is facing one of the most critical moments in its history, as nearly one million of our citizens have been displaced by Israel’s devastating war on Lebanon,” said Mikati in the presence of UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Lebanon Omran Riza, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and various Lebanese officials.
Mikati emphasized that the Lebanese government, in collaboration with UN organizations, is working diligently to meet the basic needs of displaced citizens and to establish a framework that ensures the swift, efficient, and transparent delivery of humanitarian aid.
He concluded by expressing gratitude to the UN and Arab countries for their support while calling on the UN to continue rallying further assistance to bolster ongoing efforts in providing essential services to displaced civilians.
