Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed from New York that Israel is waging a “war of extermination” against Lebanon, following a series of Israeli strikes on Friday evening in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
“This new aggression proves that the Israeli enemy is ignoring all international efforts and calls for a ceasefire, which puts the international community face to face with its responsibilities to dissuade this enemy and put an end to its tyranny,” he continued.
Mikati immediately called the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, General Joseph Aoun, to be briefed on the attack.
He also contacted Minister Nasser Yassine, the coordinator of the National Committee for Disaster and Crisis Response Operations, and instructed him to mobilize all relevant agencies.
