A-List Glamour Captivates at Toronto Film Festival
After a muted 2023 edition due to Hollywood strikes, the Toronto International Film Festival roared back to life this year with dazzling red carpet looks from the biggest stars.

Jennifer Lopez Smolders in Silver

Jennifer Lopez, 55, turned heads in a stunning metallic Tamara Ralph gown held together only by black ribbons, showcasing her famous physique. Fresh off filing for divorce from husband Ben Affleck, a producer on her new film Unstoppable, Lopez paired the daring dress with sky-high silver platform heels and loose, flowing hair.

"There was a discussion about whether I should or shouldn't [wear it]," Lopez told People magazine. "I felt good."

 Demure Elegance Takes Center Stage

While the "very demure, very mindful" aesthetic dominates TikTok this summer, it also made a strong showing on the TIFF red carpet. Fashion It Girl Sydney Sweeney, star of Ron Howard's Eden, wore a cream-colored dress with a matching capelet adorned with delicate fabric flowers and a slim bow at the waist.

British actress Florence Pugh, appearing in the tearjerker romance We Live in Time opposite Andrew Garfield, arrived in a voluminous pink strapless ball gown by Ralph. The dress featured a plunging neckline accented with a black rose and bow, evoking classic Hollywood glamour.

Cate Blanchett's Signature Spoons

Cate Blanchett, known for her daring fashion choices, gave her infamous antique spoon-adorned top another spin in Toronto. For a screening of her new Apple TV+ series Disclaimer, the two-time Oscar winner donned a fitted black trouser suit with a jacket hem embellished with silver spoons, paired with pointy stilettos. The unique look was crafted by Swedish designer Ellen Hodakova Larsson, who is making waves with her everyday object-inspired clothing.

Soft and Feminine Touches

Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o, who voices the title character in DreamWorks Animation's The Wild Robot, looked ethereal in a delicate, diaphanous sleeveless lime green Del Core gown with cutouts in the bodice.

Cuba's Ana de Armas, co-starring in Eden with Sweeney, also opted for a light touch in a pale pink Louis Vuitton ballerina-inspired gown with a sparkly high-low hemline that showcased her legs.

Back in Black

Fresh off her Venice triumph in Maria, where she portrays legendary opera singer Maria Callas, Angelina Jolie arrived in Toronto with her son Pax to promote her latest directorial effort, Without Blood. Jolie stunned in a classic black Dolce and Gabbana gown with matching long gloves, the epitome of A-list elegance.

Actress and singer Selena Gomez, generating Oscar buzz for her role in Emilia Perez, radiated in a sequinned Rodarte gown with a playful flower at the neckline. Demi Moore cut a chic figure at the screening of her body horror film The Substance in a white dress shirt, black tie, and high-waisted black skirt.

As the festival wrapped up, one thing was clear: after a year of subdued celebrations, the stars were ready to shine brighter than ever, making the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival a true fashion spectacle.
