Former Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) MPs Alain Aoun, Simon Abi Ramia, Elias Bou Saab and Ibrahim Kanaan met with Maronite Patriarch Bechara al-Rai at the latter's summer residence in Diman on Thursday, to advocate for closing Christian ranks.
At the end of the meeting, Kanaan announced that the former FPM MPs aimed to “create a national Christian dynamic,” assuring that they remain open to any “salvaging effort” capable of remedying the “paralysis” under which the country is reeling.
“We are reaching out to everyone without exception,” Kanaan said, affirming the Patriarch's support for any “unifying” movement.
“This is a call for union, not division,” he added, stressing that “the country's interests must come first, and the first step to be taken is the election of a president.”
