Reuters is reporting, Saturday, that Hamas has accepted a US proposal to end the fighting in Gaza.

This proposal would see talks begin on releasing hostages, 16 days after the first phase of an agreement that brings the cessation of hostilities, a senior Hamas source told Reuters.

Hamas have also reportedly agreed to drop the demand that Israel commits to a permanent ceasefire before signing the peace agreement. Instead agreeing to negotiations towards a permanent ceasefire that would take place throughout the first six-week phase of the agreement.

Both Israeli and Palestinian officials have anonymously expressed hope to Reuters that there is now enough common ground for an agreement to be reached which would end the nine-month conflict.

The new proposal ensures that mediators would guarantee a temporary ceasefire, aid delivery and the withdrawal of Israeli troops as long as indirect talks continue to implement the second phase of the agreement, the Hamas source told Reuters.
