Daily workers at Lebanon’s electricity company, Electricité du Liban (EDL), warned the management of the public electricity supplier that it had until Friday to implement the new contract stipulating wage adjustments proportionate to the high cost of living, threatening to escalate protests.
In a statement, the EDL day workers explained that the new labor contract awarded to the company 'Mrad export import', which was approved in accordance with regulations and laws, has not been executed to date, stressing that several months have passed since the tender was won.
They claim that the public supplier has merely extended the terms of the old tender, thereby depriving them of their most basic rights.
They also stressed that no further extension of the current conditions will be tolerated under any circumstances.
